This kind of study simulates annual daylight availability in buildings as well as the lighting energy use of automated lighting controls (occupancy sensors, photocells) compared to standard on/off switches. This computer analysis is performed through state-of-the-art software. Daylighting Simulation is used to optimize natural daylighting inside a building. It is extremely helpful at the early stages of Schematic Design phase, where daylighting & solar gains are important factors in defining the foot-print and basic envelope design.
